The two ownership discussions I have with business buyers:

1.  “I want to buy a specific business”

Typically this is someone who is a trade buyer; already have a business and / or business investments and wants a conversation about purchasing a particular business or a business in a particular sector. From their own personal experience and background they will have a pre-determined view on what they are looking for (investment criteria), particularly if it needs to complement an existing business or investment.

2.  “I want to become a business owner”

This may be an employee; someone returning from overseas or children / relatives of existing business owners or high net worth individuals that are looking to invest. These types of buyers are usually looking for a change in circumstance and therefore they tend to be more open to the type of business they are looking for.
